Guyana

Guyana..Have you ever been?? My guess is probably not...Guyana is where I was born so let me tell you a bit about the country.

When you first land in Guyana, the first thing you notice, or at least I notice, is the smell...It's so fresh...Not like mountain fresh or country side fresh..It's different. It's like you can smell the rain forest and just the earth in general...

It smells untouched....

Guyana is a land stuck in time. I visited earlier in July and before that it has been more than 10 years since I had been, and nothing had changed, except for a few roads got bigger...

People drive cars from the 70's and 80's mostly, and the roads are still full of carts drawn by horses...

I remember back in the days I used to visit, and the electricity would go off for hours and hours in the evening. I've never experienced anything so peaceful...Every house you could see just had the glow of candlelight. Everywhere else is pitch black and the only thing breaking the silence is the sounds of the many animals that we share the land with...

It's at this time my grandfather would play the guitar and we would all just listen. Maybe this is why I became fascinated by guitars so much..Not because the hundreds of bands that are out there right now, most of which we'll forget about tomorrow...

Would I ever return to live there?? Sadly...I probably wouldn't...I say sadly because it is a strange feeling not living where you feel as though you belong, or even ought to be...

People tell me that the country is slowly getting back on track, but there's so many problems...

The country is slowly falling apart...socially and economically. The infrastructure is slowly crumbling, and who's gonna stop it?? me?? Maybe I am the kind of person they need to start over fresh. That's the main problem right there...the people needed to save this poor country are the ones leaving and never planning to return, while the ones who do stay are too stuck in the past and their own selfish ways to make the slightest of difference...

But if you just put all that aside and just look at the country for what it is...Beautiful

Guyana means "land of many waters" and that's exactly what it is. The thousands of rivers that flow through the land are the life blood of this country. The water is brown and seems uninviting, but really it is clear, pure, refreshing and bordered by white sands...Sand that few will walk on and touch with their bare feet. Sand that will remain the same for years and years to come.

Will I ever return to Guyana indefinitely?? Sadly...I probably wouldn't...

Will I ever forget her?? Never....

Goats??

MAAAAaaaahhh!!! Goats actually make this noise... These animals are probably one of the most underappreciated animals out there ( not really but whatever...)

I know this because I want one..simple as that. Baby goats have got to be the softest animals. And they don't trouble anyone. Would they be good guard animals?? who knows...the future will tell..

It's Just a Guitar...

It's just six strings and some wood really....The first person who decided to make this instrument probably didn't think it would become as popular as it is today....

But in it's simplicity, it is perfect.....

An easy instrument to just pick up and play. A hard instrument to play really well....

I'd like to believe no two persons can make a guitar sound the same, but I doubt that's true. But a person's touch really determines the sweetness of the sound.

A few strums from the right soft hands would make the strongest of girls simply melt on the spot. And if you've been gifted with a voice then keep a stick handy just in case they get rowdy.....

Turn off the lights...light a few candles...and just play... It doesn't matter what. The sound fills every inch of that room, and in that moment in time, life is just good....

As I sit here writing this, I really miss my guitar....

I have so much free time to really just brush up on my playing and I feel as though I can't take advantage of that time... There's an old 12 string downstairs that just has 6 strings in it...I might dust that off and get back into it.

I know someone who wouldn't mind being here listening....

Afternoon swim in the sea...

In the 20 odd years I've lived in Barbados, I've never before gone for a swim late in the afternoon as the sun's going down. After all I've never had a reason to really...who goes to the beach when there's no sun....
After starting work and coming home on an afternoon, I thought..why not go for a swim. For starters the water is about 25 degrees which is always good. And you get a lovely sunset to watch as you just float all your troubles away. Who am I kidding.. I live in Barbados. I have no troubles....
Beach on an afternoon. This might be the start of something new....

my day ride...

This is my brother's jeep. It's a 95' Suzuki Samurai. My ride got sold so this is what i'm left with to go to work...

Isn't it pretty?? you know the saying if looks could kill??

well try driving this thing to work and back on a daily basis in 32 degree celcius sun....This bad boy picks up every little bump in the road, amplifies it somehow and shoots it into your ass!!!

I have noticed that since I've been driving this jeep, my road rage has increased ten fold..

The good part is this baby will drive any and everywhere. But we'll see how long it lasts before I take out a loan and buy something else...

First One Day at the Oval

Today I watched the first one day match at the new Kensignton Oval.

It was supposed to be yesterday but there was so much rain ppl actually started to build arks...so it didn't happen..

For those of you who don't like cricket ( Northamericans), carry ya rasshole!

It was just a simple match between 2 local teams here in Barbados but it provided me with some entertainment for a lil while.

Two men out in the first over, which I thought was hilarious...but then it started to get good. Almost witnessed the first half century at the new oval except the man get out foolish foolish on 43...

Saw a SIX that near kill a construction worker, and there was no shortages of FOURS...

runouts are indisputable due to no instant replay and they even had a lil crowd under a few tents takin' in the excitement...

All in all, there was hardly any construction going on today as everyone was watching the cricket. They should have known that would happen tho.

what the F@#& is the internet...

funniest part of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.....

I never understood all this blogging and myspace and Youtube (which just sold for enough money to ease world hunger) and hi5 and the hundreds of friend website requests I get weekly...yet here I am writing (or typing) this stuff right here..

I guess I'll use this space to just shoot out any crap that comes into my head and maybe someone will google it and read it.
